Historic Madison, Inc. welcomes applications from qualified students for wishing to be involved “hands-on” within a not-for-profit historic preservation organization. Exact start and end dates of internships will be mutually decided upon between the intern, faculty supervisor and HMI. HMI offers non-paid internships, however many students find ways to supply their funding through scholarships and academic grants.
Successful applicants will work closely with HMI staff on meaningful projects and gain experience in the operation of our organization. Interns will also gain insight into the strategies for educational development, community programming, and historic preservation through diverse education initiatives and fundraising strategies. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to visit local museums to meet other museum professionals, critically observe how museums interpret history, and gain a deeper understanding of how Madison’s past is relevant today.
Work weeks may consist of 20-30 hours per week, with occasional additional commitments for meetings and other events.
