Each year Historic Madison, Inc. provides activities in conjunction with the City of Madison and other organizations for educational and family fun during the Madison’s school spring break weeks. Please view the monthly Kids Activity schedules on our Facebook page. Historic Madison, Inc. hosts nearly 400 4th grade Madison school children annually for two days in May called HERITAGE DAYS. HMI partners with the Indiana State Historic Museum Sites, the Jefferson County Historic Society, and the Civil War Roundtable to provide two days of museum site tours with hands-on activities. Teachers can link to pre-visit resources variety of programs. We are currently working to develop this program in conjunction with educators through the Jefferson County School System. We will be happy to accommodate any school groups with tours and planned activities at any of the properties owned and operated by HMI. Please call 812-265-2967 to discuss options.
Archicamp an award winning (2-day) architecture history camp, has been offered in the past, during the summer months. The program is designed for kids 8-12 to explore Madison’s rich architecture and history with a particular planned theme. Stop back to see when this program will be offered again!

The Georgetown (Underground Railroad) Historic District has a nice walking tour guide that teachers or students can obtain at the Madison Visitors Center on Vine Street or at Historic Madison Inc. West Street office.

RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS/STUDENTS
HMI’s Director of Programs is happy to assist teachers as well as students in using the downtown city of Madison as a “textbook” resource, through the use of presentations, hands-on materials, field trips, demonstrations, projects, etc. Please call the HMI office to discuss your ideas for an interactive, learning experience for your students. For example, in May 2018, HMI received funding from the Indiana Arts Commission and the IN Historic Sites and conducted a learning program with partnership of the Madison Consolidated Junior High School Art Teacher, Eric Phagan, called “Madison’s Great Greeks”. Madison Treasures Family Fun Guide – have fun walking the town with your family using our new Family Fun Guide! Discover games, clues, and activities in this booklet that can be used to learn more about the history of Madison. Available at the Visitors Center and at all HMI museum property sites.
Georgetown District (UGRR) classroom materials- request activity sheets, handouts, a pictorial scavenger hunt and assorted materials about the UGRR by calling the HMI office.
